Even now, with flu season in full swing and widespread outbreaks reported in 11 states, it's not too late to get a flu shot, according to the CDC.

On February 8, the agency reported that the flu is affecting most of the country but is widespread in Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Kansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.

Although a new strain of the flu has emerged that this year's vaccine does not specifically target, the majority of flu cases are being caused by strains that are a good match to the vaccine, so people should still get their flu shots, said CDC director Julie Gerberding, MD. There is a plentiful supply of the vaccine available.
