The February issue of Joint Commission Perspectives indicates that a field review is imminent on the proposed new chapter for emergency management standards, which will go into effect in 2009 as part of the Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals. As of Wednesday, that field review wasn't posted on The Joint Commission's Web site.
The general feeling is that the proposed chapter may be more editorial in nature, considering The Joint Commission has just revised its current emergency management standards as of January 1, 2008.
By the way, our Second Annual Hospital Safety Symposium will look at not only the 2008 emergency management standards, but also peek at what's coming from The Joint Commission in 2009. The symposium takes place May 8-9 in Las Vegas, so please consider joining us.
