Based on information told to us by hospital folks last year, Joint Commission surveyors may ask the following questions about infant security in the hospital:

  • What security measures do you have in place to prevent an infant abduction in the labor unit?
  • Do you think those measures are adequate?
  • What steps have others hospitals in the area taken to prevent infant abductions?
  • Can operators at the security control center describe infant security measures?
  • Do you provide the same security measures for pediatric patients that you do for infants?
  • What types of education have security officers received about infant abduction prevention?
