A January 19 deadline is approaching for hospitals to submit a "top screen" questionnaire to the government if the facilities possess certain chemicals above designated levels.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) posted its Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards in November. The rule will subject some hospitals to tighter security rules surrounding chemicals that terrorists could detonate or steal.
The rule requires any organization that possesses what DHS calls "chemicals of interest" in certain quantities to submit an online top-screen. Not every screened facility will be subject to tighter chemical security rules.
The February issue of Briefings on Hospital Safety will feature a detailed breakdown of the rule and its implications for healthcare facilities.
