A broken blood pressure device caused the Dickson (TN) Medical Associates Children's Clinic to evacuate staff and patients and close for the day, according to a report by The Tennessean, November 24.
Dr. Jeff Gordon, a pediatrician at the clinic, said that no one was injured as a result of the spill, but the clinic will replace the floor in the room where the spill occurred as well as replace the type of devices like the one that broke. A document on eliminating mercury in healthcare environments by the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the average mercury sphygmomanometer spill cleanup cost is $1,539.
