OSHA to employers: Pay for PPE

In a long-awaited final rule published November 15, OSHA made it explicit that employers generally must pay for personal protective equipment (PPE) needed to safeguard workers.

"Under the rule, all PPE, with a few exceptions, will be provided at no cost to the employee," OSHA said.

Many OSHA standards that healthcare facilities deal with already mandate that employers pay for PPE (e.g., the bloodborne pathogens and hazards communications standards).
