Congress faces therapy cap decision

Rehab Regs, November 9, 2007

On November 6, legislation was introduced to Congress that would postpone the therapy cap which places financial limits on critical rehabilitation services, according to an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) press release. Starting January 1, 2008, a cap on PT, OT, and SLP services will go into effect unless The Long Term Care Quality & Modernization Act of 2007 is passed, which would extend the exceptions process. Without a therapy cap exceptions process, Medicare coverage for outpatient rehabilitation services for PT and SLP combined is $1,780 and OT is $1,1780, according to the APTA release.
