Association urges Veterans Affairs to update qualifications

Rehab Regs, October 26, 2007

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is encouraging the US Department of Veterans Affairs to update its qualification standards for physical therapists (PTs) in the hopes of encouraging more PTs to help veterans, according an association press release. The current standards haven't been updated in almost 25 years. The outdated standards do not recognize the doctor of physical therapy degree, and only requires a bachelor's degree. The APTA's standards require a Master's degree and almost 80% of practicing therapists have a doctorate.
