Audit puts Maryland schools at risk for reimbursement reduction

Rehab Regs, July 6, 2007

Maryland schools systems are at risk for losing millions of dollars in federal reimbursement under new regulations that limit the amount schools can claim for occupational therapy, physical therapy, or speech-language pathology to low-income, special-education students, reported The Baltimore Sun.

The government is looking to reclaim nearly $33 million after an audit found that the state overbilled for services between 2002 and 2004. Officials claim the school systems spent more money than they applied for in reimbursement. To prevent more disputes, Maryland school systems need to cut their reimbursement requests in half, reported The Baltimore Sun.
