ASHA educates the public on TBI

Rehab Regs, June 28, 2007

Every year about 1.4 million traumatic brain injuries (TBI) occur in the United States, costing upwards of $60 million, according to an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) press release. ASHA is working to educate the public, insurance companies, and the healthcare system about TBI. The association hopes to make the public aware of TBI and thus improve patient recovery.

ASHA's suggestions include the following:

·        Insurance companies to provide coverage of TBI related rehabilitation services

·        Individuals with TBI to demand that their insurance coverage includes TBI rehabilitation

·        The federal government to invest more money into TBI research
