PTs must boost political advocacy

Rehab Regs, June 1, 2007

Physical therapists (PT) need to improve their advocacy skills and meet with members of Congress if they want to see an improvement in the nation's healthcare system, said U.S. Representative Roy Blunt, according to the American Physical Therapy Association. Blunt spoke to 550 PTs, physical therapy assistants, and students during the May 24 PT Day on Capitol Hill. Part of his message was that PTs need to:

·        Actively lobby to remove therapy caps on outpatient rehabilitation services

·       Promote the importance of debt repayment for students choosing to practice in underserved areas

·        Endorse the benefits of direct access to PT services
