Associations team up to promote senior driving safety
Rehab Regs, June 1, 2007
To increase driving safety for seniors, the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) has joined up with other senior health and safety organizations to launch CarFit, according to an AOTA press release. CarFit is a program to teach elderly drivers about properly adjusting their vehicles to prevent death and reduce injury from car accidents and air bag deployments.
There is a 12-point checklist for drivers, which includes such things as the driver's seat being in the proper position, and the seatbelts, mirrors, steering wheel, and pedals being in proper functioning order. Occupational therapists typically perform the CarFit evaluation, according to the press release.
