PT charged with Medicare fraud

Rehab Regs, May 25, 2007

A physical therapist in Yardley, PA, who allegedly billed Medicare for service he didn't perform was recently charged with healthcare fraud, according to Trentonian.com. The PT only employed non-licensed physical therapy aides; he was the only licensed PT at the facility. He is charged with defrauding Medicare of $1.3 million.

The fraudulent acts were discovered after the PT submitted bills to Medicare on three separate occasions where he claimed to work over 24 hours a day. The PT faces up to 10 years in prison, three years probation, and a $250,000 fine, according to Trentonian.com.
