Kansas joins 43 other states in providing direct access

Kansas residents who need instruction and information on workplace injury prevention and healthy living information from physical therapists no longer need a physician referral. Approved on May 10, House Bill 2483 allows access to physical therapist services without a physician referral in certain circumstances, according an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) press release. Kansas is now the 44th state to allow its residents direct access. Under the bill, patients can receive 30 days of treatment without physician referrals if the patient was previously referred to the therapists for the same condition within the pervious year, according to the press release.
