PTs and OTs exempt from competitive bidding

Rehab Regs, April 13, 2007

Under final regulations issued by CMS last week, physical therapists (PT) and occupational therapists (OT) in private practice are exempt from Medicare's new competitive bidding process, according to an American Physical Therapy Association press release.

This rule allows PTs and OTs to provide off-the-shelf orthotics to their patients, prior to the ruling they expected to bid for the items. Those who are not exempt from the ruling, must file a competitive bid in late April, according to the press release.
