Guilty plea for clinic owner
Rehab Regs, March 9, 2007
An owner of two physical therapy clinics in Texas pleaded guilty to Medicare fraud, reported The Courier-Post. Between February 2002 and August 2005, he billed Medicare for $3.79 million for services, evaluations, and re-evaluations for patients. These services didn't take place, weren't performed by a licensed physician, or were performed by unqualified individuals, according to reports.
The owner pleaded guilty to one count of healthcare fraud and one count of wire fraud. He's scheduled for sentencing in June and faces a total of 30 years in prison and a $500,000 fine, reported The Courier-Post.
