Doctors and therapists can work together in Alabama

Rehab Regs, March 9, 2007

Alabama Legislative Council rejects ban prohibiting doctors and therapists from going into business together, reported the Montgomery Advertiser. The state's physical therapists who sought the ban stated that doctors, who direct patients to certain physical therapists, are monopolizing patients and rehabilitation profits.

Funding for the 2006 legislative election campaign is also at issue; Alabama's Medical Association donated almost $300,000 to the campaign, while physical therapists only donated $16,000. The contrast in donations raises the issue that decisions were based on money rather than ethics, reported the Advertiser.
