Insurance companies capping spinal cord therapy treatments
Rehab Regs, January 26, 2007
While treatments for spinal cord injuries continue to improve, the costs also continue to rise. As a result, many health plans are starting to limit the amount of therapy patients can receive for the injury, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Typical health plans limit patients to 60 lifetime hours of spinal cord therapy, which isn't nearly enough for most patients suffering from the debilitating condition. Some plans allow patients to purchase additional hours, but often that still doesn't cover much of the therapy.
Insurers say physical therapy is an extra health benefit that individuals must purchase, reported the Free Press.
