CMS reminds providers to get NPI number
Rehab Regs, January 26, 2007
CMS recently issued an MLNMatters article to remind providers that the National Provider Identifier (NPI) will replace healthcare provider identifiers on May 23.
Acquiring an NPI is free and providers can apply at https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPES/Welcome.do.
CMS estimates that it takes providers 120 days to implement the NPI in current business practices, yet only 116 are left until May 23.
To read the MLNMatters article and discover the critical content areas for implementing the NPI, go to www.cms.hhs.gov/MLNMattersArticles/downloads/SE0679.pdf.
