Michigan facility using Pilates for stroke patients
Rehab Regs, January 19, 2007
Heartland Rehabilitation Outpatient Services in Birmingham, MI, is using Pilates-based physical therapy to treat patients who suffered a stroke, according to PRWeb.
The facility says it has found the Pilates-based program successful for strengthening core postural muscles and deep torso muscles, as well as teaching awareness of breath.
"We've used Pilates as part of [a] physical therapy regimen to teach [the] brain how to control the affected side of [the body] in addition to building core strength," Allison Naskisher, PT, told PRWeb. Naskisher says she uses Pilates with 75% of her patients.
