OTs becoming certified by National Association of Home Builders

Rehab Regs, December 29, 2006

As the need for modified homes grows, so does the need for regulations on who can do the remodeling to best suit those in need, reported the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) is certifying people qualified to do so with the title certified aging-in-place specialist (CAPS).

While home builders and remodelers can be certified by the NAHB, so too can OTs, who are often used as consultants to determine the modification's goals.

The NAHB has certified more than 1,000 people as CAPS since 2002. The process involves three days of instruction, one day devoted to design solutions, one day to working with and marketing to older adults, and one optional day on how to run a remodeling business, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
