Clinic blames insurance cuts on closing

Rehab Regs, December 15, 2006

The owner of Bodywise Physical Therapy in Arcata, CA, says the constant cuts in reimbursement are to blame for the forced closing of the practice, according to the Times-Standard in Eureka, CA.

Judy Wohlberg announced last week that her practice of five therapists would close due to financial hardships brought on by insurance carriers reducing their payments in recent years.

The practice saw more than 1,500 patients during its five-year span, but its inability to obtain Blue Cross Preferred Provider designation was the last straw, Wohlberg told the Times-Standard. She said a competitor was within a certain mileage allowance, keeping them from being included in the plan.
