APTA explores alternative payment methodologies
Rehab Regs, November 17, 2006
At a recent meeting, the American Physical Therapy Association's (APTA) Board of Directors allocated substantial resources to pursue alternative payment methodologies, according to PT Bulletin Online.
APTA officials said they hope the new system will further the association's ongoing efforts to ensure that Medicare's payment system accurately captures patient care and reflects the work and expenses associated with PT practice.
In addition to proposing specific process measures as quality indicators, APTA will begin to develop and validate an initial assessment tool that could identify clinically related groups of patients and serve as a solid foundation for developing a clinically relevant pay-for-performance program, reported PT Bulletin Online.
