ASHA attempting to fix SLP shortage

Rehab Regs, October 27, 2006

The American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) held a meeting with more than 60 leaders from the education and healthcare field last month to discuss the current shortage of SLPs.

The three-day meeting in Rockville, MD, helped ASHA strategize solutions and develop action plans, according a release issued by the organization.

The group discussed the shortages of SLPs in schools, as well as the decreasing number of people enrolled in university and PhD SLP programs.

ASHA says it will follow up with participants in three to four months.
