Video game could help stroke rehab

Rehab Regs, September 1, 2006

Researchers at Rutgers University are experimenting with a modified video game system that may help recovering stroke patients with hand exercises, according to Science Daily.

Engineers at Rutgers modified a Microsoft Xbox game system and a gaming glove to detect finger and wrist motions to manipulate on-screen images.

Patients are able to see progress by moving fingers and wrists and viewing results on a television or computer screen. The system is still in its infancy and isn't as accurate as researchers would like, reported Science Daily, but once corrected, the system could allow stroke patients to rehab efficiently in their homes.
