HealthSouth to sell physical therapy clinics
Rehab Regs, August 18, 2006
HealthSouth has plans to sell off its freestanding physical therapy clinics to focus on inpatient therapy and home health care, according to the Birmingham (AL) News.
HealthSouth, the largest operator of rehabilitation and surgery centers in the country, began in the 1980s with the success of its PT clinics across the country. But with the company $3.3 billion in debt because of legal problems, HealthSouth will focus on expanding its inpatient rehab business.
Two-thirds of HealthSouth's 34,860 employees already work for the inpatient business, the Birmingham News reported.
The company is in the process of taking bids for its PT clinics and day surgery centers.
