CMS taking comments on infrared policy
Rehab Regs, August 18, 2006
CMS is seeking public comment on its proposed determination that the use of infrared devices is not reasonable and not necessary for diabetic and non-diabetic peripheral neuropathy, wound and ulcers, and similar conditions.
If CMS doesn't change the policy, Medicare will continue to not reimburse rehab providers for the use of infrared or monochromatic infrared energy.
CMS is trying to determine if there is enough clinical evidence to support the use of infrared for the listed conditions.
