PT and OT critical to stroke rehab

Rehab Regs, August 11, 2006

Physical therapy and occupational therapy each have distinct roles in a patient's recovery from a stroke, according to the journal Stroke.

A European study looked at 15 individual PT sessions and 15 OT sessions, and found that patients reacted differently to each discipline, reported Stroke.

PT helped patients more with ambulatory exercises, transfers, and balance in standing and lying, while OT helped with activities of daily living, domestic activities, leisure activities, and cognition.
