CMS proposes Medicare payment cuts to therapists
Rehab Regs, August 4, 2006
CMS' proposed five-year fee schedule review could cut payments to physical therapists by more than 10%, according to PT Bulletin Online.
The proposed 10% cut of relative work values on the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule is partly a result of the 37% increase in work values for evaluation and management codes billed by physicians, PT Bulletin Online reported.
The relative work value reduction will be combined with a 4.6% cut in the conversion factor as well.
The one bright side for PTs is the proposal for new methodology for calculating practice expenses over four years, which should increase payments to PTs, according to PT Bulletin Online.
