APTA supports Medicare Independent Living Act

Rehab Regs, July 28, 2006

The American Physical Therapy Association President (APTA) Scott Ward wrote a letter to Congress in support of the Medicare Independent Living Act of 2006 (S.3677).

The legislation would lift the restriction on Medicare coverage for devices to enhance the mobility of individuals with functional limitation, impairments, and disabilities. Currently Medicare requires services for these people to be "in the home" but this act would eliminate that.

The APTA said that PTs are essential to the assessment of individuals with mobility needs.
