Mistrial declared in Medicare fraud case
Rehab Regs, July 21, 2006
The Houston man accused of bilking Medicare for more than $500,000 will have to wait six months for a new trial after the judge declared a mistrial Tuesday, according to The Advocate in Lafayette, LA.
Michael Prince is accused of organizing a scheme in which his physical therapy clinic, Alpha Healthcare Services in Opelousas, LA, fraudulently billed Medicare for $500,000 from October 2000 to April 2001.
The mistrial came after Prince's attorney told the judge that the prosecutors gave him copies of journal entries that were out of sequence from Prince's business associate's actual documentation journal, reported The Advocate.
