CMS ends HIPAA contingency plan
Rehab Regs, July 21, 2006
CMS recently announced that effective October 1, Medicare will stop sending electronic remittance advice in any version other than the standard Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) version, according to PT Bulletin Online.
In a MLN Matters article, CMS explain that Medicare will only send compliant Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) to healthcare providers who currently receive electronic remittance advice, ending the contingency plan that CMS had established to ease the transition to standardized HIPAA remittance advice.
