MedPAC stresses the need for SLP accountability
Rehab Regs, June 30, 2006
The recent Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPac) report highlighted the importance of a Medicare provider number for SLPs, according to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
The provider number would allow SLPs to greatly improve accountability and would be necessary if Medicare payments are ever linked to patient outcomes, ASHA said.
PTs and OTs currently have provider numbers that allow for federal government data collection, but the MedPAC report makes it clear that SLPs are a separate profession.
