Program offers seniors assistance with balance
Rehab Regs, June 9, 2006
Verdugo Hills Hospital's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department in La Canada Flintridge, CA, is offering seniors a program to help prevent falls and improve balance, reported La Canada Valley Sun.
The program, A Balanced Life, teams PTs up with patients on an individualized basis to assess their balance and perform home safety evaluations.
A Balanced Life started this month in conjunction with National Safety Month. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than one-third of people over the age of 65 fall each year.
The program hopes to reduce some of the falls in the area, as well as prevent some of the 20,000 deaths that occur due to dangers around the home according to numbers from the Home Safety Council.
