Two Florida men arrested for Medicare fraud

A Florida grand jury indicted a father and son on charges that they paid kickbacks to healthcare providers for referring patients to their rehab facility, according to the States News Service.

Federal agents arrested Sebastian Silvera and Julio O. Silvera on six counts of paying kickbacks to healthcare providers for referring Medicare beneficiaries to St. Louis Rehabilitation Program, Inc., the company the men co-owned.

The arrests are part of a larger investigation into Medicare and Medicaid fraud in South Florida that has brought 40 new criminal cases involving allegations of at least $40 million of fraudulent care, according to the States News Service.
