Report: Medicare to run out of funds in 2018
Rehab Regs, May 12, 2006
Medicare's hospital trust fund will run out of money in 2018, a full two years earlier than predicted just last year, according to an annual financial report issued this week by the Medicare and Social Security trustees.
The report states that, without adjustments by Congress, the entitlement program is unsustainable, leaving providers and beneficiaries to soon face potential cuts in payments and benefits. It also further complicates any efforts to avert a physician fee schedule cut or moratorium on the therapy cap this year, reported PT Bulletin Online.
The trustees report showed the Social Security trust fund becoming exhausted in 2040, one year earlier than predicted last year.
