Louisiana PT program uses spacesuit
Rehab Regs, April 28, 2006
PLAY Physical Therapy in Shreveport, LA, is using a special therapeutic suit to help patients achieve muscle movement in their legs while trying to improve balance and walking ability, reported The Shreveport Times.
The suit, which the facility refers to as a "spacesuit," allows therapists to stabilize weak areas of a person suffering from symptoms brought on by diseases such as cerebral palsy. The suit works by supporting the patient and allowing therapists to work with his or her alignment. The suit is adjustable for areas of need and can lift as much as 30 pounds of stress off of a person's body, according to The Shreveport Times.
