Some PTs may receive relief from student loans
Rehab Regs, April 14, 2006
PTs who practice in areas where there are shortages of healthcare providers may get relief from student loan debt if Congress passes bill HR 5134, according a press release by the American Physical Therapy Association.
The bill would allow the loan relief under the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program.
"In rural America, the quality of healthcare is undeniably linked to the availability of services," said Representative Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO 8th District). "It can be a real challenge to attract and keep expert physical therapists."
The National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program currently includes primary care physicians, dentists, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and mental behavioral health professionals.
