ASHA praises volume setting software

Rehab Regs, April 7, 2006

Apple recently announced new software that will allow parents to limit the volume on iPods, an initiative supported by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

ASHA has expressed its concerns about possible hearing loss from listeners using the digital music players at high-decibel levels, but the organization said in a press release that Apple is "taking a step in the right direction."

Apple's software update will allow listeners or parents to set a maximum volume limit and lock it with a code. ASHA considers 85 decibels the safe upper limit.
