Texas using phones for physical therapy
Rehab Regs, March 24, 2006
The Texas State Health Science Center is allowing physical therapists to treat and monitor patients through an advanced phone system, reported the University Star in San Marcos, TX.
The Physical Therapy Department Telehealth Program allows clinicians to transmit a patient's medical information from one location to another over the phone.
It involves setting up a system in the patient's home, which includes placing a transmitter on the patient. The transmitter monitors a patient's readings during exercise and allows the PT to speak with the patient during the exercise.
The system is still in its infancy after receiving a grant to test its usefulness and accuracy.
