FL Department of Health warns unlicensed PT practice

Rehab Regs, March 24, 2006

The Florida Department of Health (FDH) recently issued a written warning to a Fort Lauderdale provider of fitness education programs regarding its use of language in its fitness program brochures, according to PT Bulletin Online.

The FDH wrote that the brochure put out by Exercise Etc. Inc., "could very easily be interpreted as teaching your students skills that are exclusive to the physical therapy profession."

The department completed an investigation of the company after a complaint was filed for the alleged unlicensed practice of physical therapy.

In its letter, the department suggests that Exercise Etc. "carefully review" its brochures and course literature to "guarantee that there is no confusion as to your scope or field of practice," according to PT Bulletin.
