Researchers worry about Medicare report card results

Rehab Regs, February 17, 2006

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) has concerns over the accuracy of the report cards Medicare uses to grade its managed care plans, according to the Washington Post.

The NBER says that patients may be grading facilities more on fancy waiting rooms, friendly receptionists, and convenient parking garages rather than on quality of care.

The results of the report cards often determine where patients choose future care, and the NBER worries that using information not based on quality care could lead to poor choices and emphasis in the wrong areas.
