Therapy offers paralyzed patients the chance to walk

Rehab Regs, February 10, 2006

A new therapy treatment is allowing partially paralyzed patients the chance to experience walking again, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Using a body harness, a sophisticated exoskeleton, and an expensive, specialized treadmill, the treatment offers patients a chance to move their legs and build confidence.

Recent studies at the University of Texas-Southwestern show the exercise can also help regenerate the message system between the legs and brain.

This could lead to major strides in the recovery of patients suffering from paralysis due to faulty brain transmittals from the spine.
