Interdisciplinary education needed in PT programs
Rehab Regs, February 10, 2006
A need exists for interdisciplinary educational opportunities for students in PT education programs to improve patient care and enhance communication with other healthcare team members, said Bette Ann Harris, PT, DPT, MS, at this year's CSM conference.
Harris added that it is important "to identify the common threads that run across disciplines."
Harris offered an example from one study, where students found that interdisciplinary learning experiences were relevant and they wanted more of them.
She also encouraged PT educators to periodically reevaluate their programs to integrate these types of learning experiences into their curricula.
