PT finds success combining with fitness training

Rehab Regs, January 13, 2006

A Woburn, MA, PT is finding success by co-marketing his business as a wellness center and physical therapy facility, reports the Boston Business Journal.

Mike Mulrenan, PT, aims his services at the baby boomer crowd by offering services such as childhood weigh management, prenatal fitness, nutritional services, and sport training to go along with the typical physical therapy aspects.

Mulrenan says the practice works because it combines the cash-paying wellness center customers with the insurance paying physical therapy patients.

He's been able to adapt about 25% of his physical therapy patients into the wellness center, while about 40% of his physical therapy patients come from wellness center users.

Mulrenan recently opened up another co-marketing facility in Stratham, NH, and the two facilities brought in $1.3 million in revenue in 2005. From the Massachusetts facility alone, the practice had about 700 wellness center customers and 800 physical therapy patients.
