CMS to cover pulsed electromagnetic therapy

Rehab Regs, November 4, 2005

CMS announced that it will now cover pulsed electromagnetic therapy for the treatment of chronic wound care, according to Hospital Business Week.

The decision allows the use of ActiPatch therapy as an approved treatment of chronic stage III or IV pressure ulcers, arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and venous stasis ulcers.

ActiPatch therapy is a dermal patch made by the BioElectronics Corporation that delivers weeks of continuous therapy through an electronic microchip.

The portable patch can reduce swelling, relieve pain, and enhance the healing of surgical incisions, accidental wounds, sprains, strains, and chronic wounds.
