AOTA president meets with congressional leaders on therapy cap
Rehab Regs, October 28, 2005
M. Carolyn Baum, president of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), met with several key congressional leaders last week to give her views on the Medicare Part B cap and its effect on the full range of occupational therapy services.
Baum promoted a solution to the cap that would extend maximum Part B benefits to patients, according to an AOTA press release.
"When policymakers hear about occupational therapy (OT), they are excited," said Baum. "They realize we are part of the solution-lowering costs and achieving outcomes."
Baum stressed to the members she met with how OT can keep older people more independent and living in the community. She also talked about improving the process of review mechanisms and appropriate utilization and achievement of specified outcomes.
