Rehab Regs, September 16, 2005

Leaders from APTA and the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) recently met at NATA headquarters in Dallas, TX, to share their visions, goals, and objectives, reports PT Bulletin Online. Other issues discussed included:

  • The practice roles of physical therapists and athletic trainers regarding individuals with disabilities who participate in organized sports
  • The relative benefits of exposing physical therapy and athletic training students to the clinical activities of each discipline
  • The need to increase public understanding of the academic and clinical preparation of physical therapy and athletic training students
  • The recruitment of minority individuals into physical therapy and athletic training
  • The Allied Health Care Reinvestment Act

Although no dates were established for a follow-up meeting, APTA told the Bulletin communications will continue, with both presidents planning to present at future conferences of the two organizations.
