CMS WILL STOP ACCEPTING MEDICARE CLAIMS THAT AREN'T HIPAA READY
Rehab Regs, August 26, 2005
As of October 1, CMS will no longer accept electronic Medicare claims that fail to meet requirements under HIPAA, according to the PT Bulletin Online. The agency has been accepting noncompliant Medicare claims since July 2003 while urging facilities to make reasonable and diligent efforts to comply. CMS reports that about 0.5% of all Medicare fee-for-service providers submitted noncompliant claims in June, which shows the healthcare industry is ready for full commitment to HIPAA compliance.
