CMS proposes physician fee schedule cut
Rehab Regs, August 11, 2005
Citing increased spending for Medicare Part B services, CMS has called for a 4.3% cut in 2006 payments under the physician fee schedule in proposed regulations released this week, according to PT Bulletin Online. As it did earlier this year, CMS cites physical therapy as one of the "minor procedures" that have experienced significantly higher use in recent years. The proposal also estimates that the Medicare therapy cap for 2006 will be $1,750 per beneficiary. Unless Congress intervenes this year, current law requires that the therapy cap be reinstated January 1, 2006, reported the Bulletin.
